Highly conscious of pollution issues, Nathalie Gontard is a pioneer in recyclable and intelligent biomaterials. Research Director in the Agropolymer Engineering and Emerging Technologies Unit of INRA’s Occitanie-Montpellier research centre, she receives the 2017 Scientific Breakthrough Award.

For Nathalie Gontard, INRA is “an amazing organisation serving agriculture and agrifood, both in France and around the world”. She is charting a course that looks well beyond the horizon. It is imperative not only to have a very long term view when considering the future outcomes of plastic, it is also necessary to recycle plastics as much as possible and to develop plant-based, biodegradable packaging.
