Each year, INRA recruits tenured researchers and engineers and welcomes several hundred foreign researchers and students.

Permanent researchers of all nationalities are recruited through a competitive process to select highly-qualified candidates. They are tenured from the start, and they can express their creativity and reach a level of excellence for the pleasure of discovering and developing effective applications useful to society today. Permanent engineers of all nationalities are selected using the same competitive procedure. They have major technical and managerial responsibilities.

INRA will recruit over 30 research scientists - applications closed

Whatever scientific discipline they have been trained in, researchers depend on laboratory and field activities. Involved in scientific networks, they respond to environmental, economic and social issues. In striving for excellence, they discover and create concrete applications, useful for society. Personal research and collective projects overlap to advance knowledge and to contribute to innovation, whether it means producing sustainably, preserving the environment or improving human nutrition.

Each year, INRA organises open competitions to recruit research scientists (CRCN). The recruitment campaign is generally aimed at young researchers who have recently obtained their PhD. Candidates are recruited on the basis of their scientific competence which they will put to the service of INRA's major research axes by responding to a research topic. Candidates must have published articles on the results of their PhD.

Positions are open in a wide range of scientific disciplines such as agronomy and livestock research, reproductive and behavioural biology, molecular biology, ecology, economics, genetics, process engineering, genomics and other -omics, geography and geomatics, informatics and artificial intelligence, instrumentation, robotics and imaging, mathematics, mathematics and informatics for living organisms and the environment, nutrition, medical and veterinary sciences.

Key activities and required skills
Advances in remote and close-range detection with drones, rover robots, pedestrian systems or fixed sensors help provide better quality high resolution spatial and temporal images. However, with the methods used to interpret these massive databases it is not yet possible to exploit the wealth of information and thus gain access to a detailed and precise characterization of the state and functioning of crops useful for varietal selection (phenotyping), decision support (precision farming) and modelling of growth and development processes. The successful candidate will exploit 3D structure and crop functioning models to interpret the time series of images provided by these measurement systems. The desired skills should enable the interpretation of geophysical signals, in the optical domain, in conjunction with machine learning methods, as well as the integration of observations in crop functioning models.
Training required
PhD or equivalent. Training in physics and signal processing including machine learning methods, as well as a strong taste for modelling is recommended. Candidates should have a good command of English, and long-term international experience would also be desirable. Successful candidates who have not yet acquired this experience abroad will be required to do so after their probationary period (1st year).
